Michael studied law at King’s College, London, and the College of Law.
After qualifying as a solicitor in the UK in 1979, Michael Sproule first worked in commerce with a strong emphasis on commercial properties and financing. He then moved to legal practices both in London and the Home Counties where he advised on corporate, commercial, finance and property work.
Before moving to Guernsey with his locally born wife in 1995, Michael Sproule was a senior lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire Faculty of Laws lecturing on the Legal Practice Course to local law societies and undergraduates covering financial services, professional conduct, conveyancing, employment, tort and medical law, planning law and data protection.
Since moving to the island he initially worked with the GFSC before moving into banking, ultimately rising to Head of Legal Services for the Channel Islands with a leading merchant bank.
He has substantial expertise in the Guernsey financial services area, particularly in the fields of banking and structured products, fiduciary services, investment funds, data protection and financial crime prevention.
